Dear Former RPCVs, PC Staffers and Friends of Encore!,
Imbued with the idealism that has always energized us, we launched Encore! just about two years ago—to enthusiastic acclaim. We asked you to "Come Join Us!" in this new venture, and indeed you have. From the very first, the response has been overwhelming. In traditional, heartwarming PCV fashion, you have stepped up to the plate in practically every way imaginable:
- "How can I help?"
- "What can we do?"
- "Please, come on down and tell us about Encore!"
- "Could you use some computer help?""I wish we could send more but hope this will help.""When can we go?"
We can't tell you how much your enthusiastic encouragement, countless volunteer hours and generous financial contributions have reinforced our belief in our mantra that "Once a Peace Corps Volunteer, always a Peace Corps Volunteer!" Thank you.
At the same time, we would be less than candid if we did not share our disappointment that it has taken as long as it has to get Encore! off the ground. But off the ground we are, beginning to send our first volunteers into the field in partner projects with United Way International, the National Library of Medicine and others. By the end of the year, some 20 Encore! volunteers will have served in India, Indonesia, Armenia, Peru and Ethiopia, with many more opportunities to follow.
We thank you for your continued interest and look forward to sharing more good news with you shortly.
For additional information, just browse our web site, send our executive director, Susan Ely, an e-mail or give one of us a call (Jerr can be reached at 214-866-0472, Chris at 202-337-7838). We'd love to have you be part of this wonderful new adventure.
